This coming Saturday, the Petäjävesi Radio and Telephone Museum in Finland is hosting its special Fathers and Children’s Day, offering free admission, a fascinating collection of communications history, and something rather unusual: the opportunity to listen to real hobby radio stations broadcasting live over the airwaves.
And this Saturday, at least three stations will be making themselves heard.
Naturally, RBSK has somehow managed to become one of them.
This means it’s time to dust off the studio, wake up the equipment, and put the trusty turntable back to work. The stylus will descend, the familiar crackle of vinyl will fill the air, and somewhere on 6120 kHz, Radio Blacksmith Knoll will once again demonstrate that perfectly good modern technology is no reason to stop playing records the old-fashioned way.
Expect music, a little analogue nostalgia, and quite possibly the occasional technical experiment disguised as entertainment.
The museum’s special event runs from 10:00 to 14:00 Finnish time, and RBSK intends to remain on air throughout the museum’s regular opening hours, until 17:00.
That is, of course, assuming the equipment behaves, the weather cooperates, and the laws of physics remain reasonably consistent.
So whether you’re visiting the museum, tuning in from somewhere further away, or simply wondering why there’s music coming out of the shortwave bands again, you’re very welcome to join us.
Radio Blacksmith Knoll, 6120 kHz.
Keeping the old technology alive, occasionally against its own wishes.
Stay tuned!
