Radio Blacksmith Knoll — 6120 kHz
Updated: 20 September 2026
Radio Blacksmith Knoll (RBSK) is an independent, non-commercial hobby radio station broadcasting on shortwave from Finland.
This notice explains the basis on which music is used in the station’s broadcasts and how copyright and royalty enquiries are handled.
Original and AI-Assisted Music
The station’s own repertoire includes original music developed by the operator using Suno as an AI-assisted music production tool. The operator’s contributions include lyrical content, creative direction, decisions concerning vocals and instrumentation, and editing of material, including the operator’s own performances.
These recordings are original productions, not cover versions. They were created and downloaded while the operator held an active Suno Pro subscription. The downloaded audio files are stored locally and played from the operator’s own computer.
The recordings described here are made for use on RBSK. They are not offered for sale or distributed by the operator through third-party music streaming services.
Their use is based on the operator’s rights in their own contributions and the rights and permissions granted under the applicable Suno terms of service. This does not imply that every AI-generated element necessarily qualifies for copyright protection or that Suno’s terms eliminate any independently applicable third-party rights.
Other Music and Programme Material
Where material from other sources is used, the station’s policy is to establish an appropriate basis for the particular broadcast use before transmission. Depending on the material, this may involve:
- Permission obtained directly from the relevant rights holders.
- A Creative Commons or other licence covering the intended use.
- Expiry or absence of the relevant copyright and related rights.
- An applicable licence or agreement with a collective management organisation.
Rights in the composition, lyrics and any protected arrangement must be considered separately from rights in the particular recording and recorded performances.
An old composition does not automatically make a modern recording of it free to use. Similarly, descriptions such as “royalty-free” or “copyright-free” are not treated as sufficient evidence of broadcast permission on their own.
Creative Commons Material
Where Creative Commons material is used, the applicable licence must cover the material and intended use. Attribution, licence identification, notices of modifications and other relevant conditions must be observed.
Material licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0 is used only where the intended use meets that licence’s non-commercial requirements. A Creative Commons licence is not treated as a guarantee that every possible right or statutory remuneration claim has been waived.
The use of Creative Commons material by the station does not mean that the station’s own music is released under a Creative Commons licence.
Licensing and Royalty Payments
Any requirement for a licence or payment is assessed according to the material used, the rights involved, the nature of the broadcast and any applicable agreement or provision of Finnish copyright law.
The station’s non-commercial character is not presented as a general exemption from copyright obligations. Equally, broadcasting music does not, by itself, establish that a payment is owed to a particular collecting society.
Where a licence or remuneration arrangement is required for specific repertoire or use, the station’s policy is to address that requirement before broadcasting the material concerned.
Rights Information and Supporting Records
The information relevant to a rights enquiry depends on the recording and the issue raised. Supporting material may include original lyrics and audio files, creation and download dates, subscription information, applicable licence terms, direct permissions and broadcast records.
No claim is made that this public notice alone proves the rights status of every recording.
Copyright and Royalty Enquiries
Rights holders and their authorised representatives are welcome to contact the station about a specific broadcast.
To assist assessment, please provide:
- The work or recording concerned.
- The broadcast date and approximate time, if known.
- The right or rights claimed and the identity of the relevant rights holder.
- Your authority to act on that rights holder’s behalf, where applicable.
- The legal or contractual basis of the claim and the remedy or payment requested.
Enquiries will be considered on their merits against the available information. A request for clarification or supporting evidence should not be understood as an admission of liability.

Scope of This Notice
This notice describes the station’s music-rights policy for its shortwave broadcasts. It does not override applicable law, licence conditions or valid third-party rights.
Broadcasting the station’s own material does not, through this notice, grant listeners permission to redistribute or commercially exploit that material. Separately licensed third-party material remains subject to its own applicable terms.
