This Saturday Finland’s national broadcaster is celebrating its 100 years with a full day of festivities at Veikkaus Arena, from morning celebrations to the Yle 100 Show and, eventually, the rather magnificent idea of letting the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra loose on heavy metal.
Naturally, RBSK will be following the proceedings from a safe distance through Yle Areena and the internet.
Meanwhile, something rather less ceremonial is happening at our end.
A fairly substantial expansion of the station’s technical capabilities is currently under construction, which means RBSK may appear on 6120 kHz at various random moments during the day while we test things, break things, wonder why they worked five minutes ago, and occasionally discover that something actually works better than expected.
There is no programme schedule.
There is barely a plan.
If you happen to be listening, you might hear something RBSK has never done before.
Or some music.
Or silence.
Possibly all three.
The door is open. Let’s see what escapes.
