It’s a Techie time!

Back to everyday life after Kesis, but not quite back to normal.

The weekend in Joensuu left us with several excellent ideas, and now it is time to start putting some of them into practice. So, during the coming weekend, RBSK will once again be running technical tests on air.

This time the main focus is our audio processing chain. We are preparing to introduce a completely revised preprocessing setup for the station.

AM will always have its limitations. The available audio bandwidth is narrow, and sometimes propagation is far from kind to the signal. But good processing can make a remarkable difference. The goal is simple: to make RBSK sound as clear, balanced and enjoyable as possible, even when conditions are less than perfect.

The processing software itself has developed considerably during the past year, with several new versions and improvements released since we first built our current setup. RBSK, however, is still running settings created roughly a year ago.

They have served us well. Now it is time to bring them up to date.

More testing, more listening, more tweaking.

That is what technical weekends are for.
