This weekend, 12–13 September, RBSK will be temporarily redirecting most available technical resources into another high-priority infrastructure project: the construction of a garden sauna.
As a result, normal curated programming will not be available.
The station crew will instead be occupied with timber, insulation, screws, measurements, tools, coffee, additional measurements and the gradual realization that the first measurements were apparently taken in a different universe.
If a suitable gap appears in the construction schedule, RBSK may still come on air with music. In that case the transmitter will effectively become part of the building site, providing background audio for an operation involving significantly more wood than is normally considered necessary in broadcasting.
No promises will be made regarding musical direction.
Possible formats include classic rock, electronic music, songs suitable for carrying lumber, songs unsuitable for carrying lumber and, depending on the progress of the project, extended periods of deeply philosophical material about why one wall is three millimetres longer than the other.
For the rest of 2026, RBSK will also move into reduced operations.
Autumn is becoming increasingly busy, and the traditional concept of a complete two-day radio weekend is starting to look suspiciously like something invented during a more optimistic period of human history.
The intention is nevertheless to keep the station active whenever possible, with Saturdays becoming the main target for broadcasts.
So RBSK is not shutting down.
It is merely entering a lower duty cycle while available manpower is temporarily reassigned to other critical systems, some of which now contain a chimney.
All broadcasts, tests, strange noises, unexpected carriers and other signs of activity will continue to be announced here on the RBSK blog.
Following the blog is therefore recommended.
Following the construction schedule is not.
